Yeah, never going to give that company a single cent of my money after the crap they have pulled over the last few days... I was thinking about trying it... but now?

They are banning people, permanently, for PLAYING THE AUCTION HOUSE.

They are banning people, permanently, for going to higher level zones than their character is and looting things.

They are banning people, permanently, for "items, objects, currency, character attributes, rank, or status that are inappropriate for the level or rank of the character contained in the Account". (thats actually in the ToS, pathetic isn't it? Yeah, so don't mail your alts any items higher level than they are or high amounts of credits)

So, to those of you who are paying this company money... don't stray from the little ride laid out before you, apparently bioware will ban you for doing things outside the story.

I'm not playing SW yet since I don't have time but this was interesting to me so I did some research and it appears that the player reports might be exaggerated or even outright false.

The following two links are reports (which contain more official links) of some details on this...

http://gamerfront.net/2012/01/is-bioware-really-banning-old-republic-players/15458

http://venturebeat.com/2012/01/03/bioware-explains-recent-star-wars-the-old-republic-bans/

It wouldn't surprise me if a new MMO company made some newbie mistakes and overreact now and then but I can't say I disagree too much with what I'm reading on the official reports. Nor does it really concern me too much with their ToS because it's pretty common knowledge that the ToS exists to allow the company to do pretty much anything they want to do. They could save a lot of lawyer money if they just made the ToS say "We can do whatever we want and you have to suck it!". Anyway, only Bioware knows the real story and time will tell.

Simply because of the ToS I will never touch It, if they are going to specify reasons then they intend to ban for those reasons.

Well just to throw my 2 cents in...I'm not in favor of the ToS rules that a lot of companies go for. I haven't updated my Xbox or PS3 because of the ToS agreements which ban your legal rights (they force you to go to an abitrator...which the company chooses...and if you research that you'll learn that arbitrators find in favor of the company the majority of the time because, surprise, the company is paying them).

If you look at your credit card agreements or any other financial statements you'll probably find that you've given up legal rights as well. And honestly, that aggrevates me to no end. I'm not trying to be some liberal activist, but I really hate it when corporations try to absolve themselves of anything they may ever do. I understand we live in a litigious society, but I dont think it's fair that companies get to skate around issues just because they have high-priced lawyers.

Having said that, I'll probably have to agree to the arbitration agreements that PS3 and Xbox make just because I want to watch movies on my system. And in all honesty, I probably won't be affected by them. It bothers me, and as a matter of principle I'm not going to like it. But I'm also not sure what to do about it (until some larger orginization take the fight on and can overturn it).

As Shimmer said I think some of the complaints against ToR are not well founded. Obviously I don't know this first hand, and when I get my account banned for no good reason I'll be on the other side of the fence. But I do thnk that Blizzard (according to their ToS - which says they can terminate the access at any time) can do the same thing. Just like any major corporation. Again, I don't think they will most of the time, but they specify that right when they make you sign their ToS...
